Captain Cook Cruises · Circular Quay, Wharf 6
Captain Cook Cruises sells this combo: a return ferry from Circular Quay Wharf 6 and a zoo ticket in one booking. Pick it if you want the crossing sorted before you arrive, with one voucher for the boat and the gate.

You check in at the Captain Cook Cruises ticket office at Wharf 6, near Circular Quay station, then board a fast "rocket ferry" for the hop across the harbour. The first boat leaves about 9am, the listing says. Captain Cook's own page lists up to 10 departures a day and a crossing of roughly 10 to 15 minutes, with the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge in view (operator timetable).
The boat lands at Taronga Zoo wharf, and your entry is through the Lower Entrance, a 3 minute walk away. That puts you at the bottom of a steep 28 hectare zoo. The Sky Safari cable car is gone until late 2027, and the operator says plainly that the bus up to the Main Entrance is at your own cost. Walk up through the zoo, or pay the bus fare and walk down. We prefer the second.
Two things to check. First, the way back: return boats run on a timetable, and on Captain Cook's current one the last boat leaves the zoo wharf just before 5pm, with fewer returns on weekdays. Second, the listing text is out of date in places. It still mentions Asian elephants, which moved to South Australia in 2025, and its includes list names food and transfers, which are not part of this combo. The ferry does not run on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or Australia Day.
Go to the Captain Cook Cruises ticket office at Circular Quay Wharf 6, by the station. Not Wharf 4: that's the public ferry.
Sit on the open deck for the Opera House, the Bridge and the north shore coming closer.
Walk from the wharf to the Lower Entrance. Decide here: climb through the zoo, or take bus 238 to the top at your own cost.
Shows at 11am, 12pm, 2pm and 3pm, keeper talks in between. The zoo suggests about 3 hours; most people stay longer.
Be at the wharf for your return boat. Check the return times when you check in, since they change with the season.
